Domain Name Monetization Report: October 2007

October domain earnings were on par with September, over all my earnings were just over $5,000. I would guess close to $5,400. overall with earnings from:

• Adsense
• The Ebay Affiliate Program
• BuyCostumes.com
• NameDrive (Parked Domains)
• Parked.com (Parked Domains)
• Other small earning programs

While my earnings were on par with last months (September) revenue overall things are dropping a bit. What are the main factors to my loss in income across several sites / domains?

1. My Adsense eCPM has dropped by 50% over the last three to four months. I continue to drive about the same amount of traffic and click thoughts however my payments per click are dropping. Why is this happening? I can think of several reasons.
1. Google just launched their referrals 2.0. One guess is that advertisers are moving toward this cpa program instead. If I were a merchant I would focus on referrals first and then think about paying for “traffic”.
2. I also have quite a few sites / domains that promote more “summer time” products and activities. Sites that sell used motorcycles, used cars as well as a swingset site. These types of sites are going to perform at a higher level during warmer months.

Even with the drop in income (I expect November to be a poor earnings month) I am still excited about my sites and future online. Anyone who has been online for any length of time understands that earnings will go up and down. Such as life as an entrepreneur, heck … it’s a lot better than working a 9 – 5 job.

In the coming weeks I plan to focus on their very site, it had another very successful launch and is ranking very well for some competitive search terms online. It is also making money with parking companies. So it is a win / win! Other plans include building out some of the domains I have picked up over the last several months and adding additional content to sites I picked up over the summer that are ranking high.

I am going to be touching on some thoughts and strategies concerning domain parking and when it makes more sense to create a site. These articles and posts will be part of a series that I am going to be calling “Beyond Parking”. So that about wraps up this months revenue report.
